As the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games approach, Choose Paris Region is working on all fronts: actions aimed at investors and influencers, welcoming visitors, producing and distributing content... The aim is to make the agency a central economic stakeholder in the Games and to promote Paris Region as an innovative economic and cultural hub.
Attracting foreign companies to Paris Region
Since Paris was awarded the Games in 2017, 110 foreign investments that are directly or indirectly linked to the Games - and represent 4,000 jobs - have been made in Paris Region. Thanks to an observatory that monitors and assesses their impact in Paris Region, the agency is able to support these foreign companies before, during, and after the Games. Lionel Grotto, Managing Director of Choose Paris Region, makes no secret of his ambition: “Our aim is for Paris Region to be clearly identified as an economic capital in the world, and a natural gateway for setting up business in Europe. “
To extend this dynamic with international companies, the agency is committed to promoting the excellence of the region's industries and its capacity for transformation. In 2023, 10 digital prospecting campaigns and a webinar co-organized with Solideo attracted over 2,500 stakeholders from the DeepTech, Sport & Health, and Mobility sectors. In May 2024, several “explorer tours”, including visits to industrial sites, technology clusters, and infrastructures linked to the Olympic Games, highlighted exemplary companies based in the Greater Paris region and facilitated meetings between public and private decision-makers. According to Lionel Grotto, these actions are in line with Paris Region's new economic role:
Since Brexit, Paris Region is the only international city in the European Union. This is a strength, but also a responsibility because we now have to pull the rest of the train in Europe. We want to embody the European values of openness, responsibility, curiosity and ambition.
Openness and ambition are also reflected in the expansion of an entire diplomatic network of embassies, chambers of commerce, attractiveness agencies, etc. At the end of January 2024, a “Paris Region Ambassadors' Club” was created to promote the capital region beyond its borders.
Developing an exceptional tourism offering
With its 72 host communities, Paris Region will welcome over 15 million visitors to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. “Our region is desired and desirable; dynamic, attractive and inspiring,” added the General Manager. To improve the visitor experience, Choose Paris Region is working with the airports. In addition to the several 45-second clips produced with ADP and broadcast in the Roissy CDG and Paris Orly airports, 10 Tourist Information Points (TIPs) will provide advice and information on the various Olympic venues, as well as suggest tourist itineraries. A 100% digital travel guide will also allow visitors to venture off the beaten track, into lesser-known areas of Greater Paris, to “show that the region offers a framework that is conducive to welcoming visitors from all over the world and that they will be able to find many reasons to settle here for the long term”, said Lionel Grotto.
At the same time, the agency is providing human resources to welcome visitors. It has 210 tourism volunteers working in museums, monuments, tourist offices, railway stations, and airports, two-thirds of which are located outside Paris. To support tourism professionals, Choose Paris Region has also designed a full range of training courses - in particular on how to welcome people with disabilities - enhanced by the special 2024 Olympics edition of the guide “ Do You Speak Touriste “, in partnership with the Paris Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR).
Promoting the Paris Region brand on all screens
With 4 billion viewers expected over 350,000 broadcast hours, the event will be an opportunity to showcase Paris Region in the media. During the Games, the Agency and Film Paris Region teams will be present at the Carreau du Temple, Media Center of the City of Paris, to provide non-accredited journalists with a wide range of editorial content.
Choose Paris Region also publishes content on its websites and social networks - make sure to follow us there as well!
